Japanese paper is suprisingly robust, even without support by plastic or acryl (of course, sharp tools or pet claws can tear them). For usage on shoji – Japanese sliding doors or walls for room separation – the paper is fixed to the wooden frames with water soluble starch containing glue. It then stretches and tightends nicely. Damaged single or larger areas can be repaired or even be replaced with ease. Natural Japanese papers have a front and back that can differ depending on the making.

We offer a nice range of standard and rare papers optimized over years due our own demand and our customers feedback. Shoji Paper is more or less translucent. The cloudy or fibrious texture is emphasized before daylight or or lamplight. Where no special lighting is available (e.g. at wardrobe doors) other effects come to the fore.
